Education

We are committed to education to enable students of Ryukoku University to engage in partnership with communities and continue their engagement with communities even after graduation, thereby rendering society and their lives even more fulfilling.
We also provide support for curricular and non-curricular programs available mainly in Kyoto and Shiga, where our campuses are located, and perform matchmaking with organizations other than the university, such as companies.

Accumulation and Dissemination of Expertise on Community Partnership

We have established the “Bank of Expertise on Community Partnership⎯‘with Dragon.’” This website shows a wide variety of examples of the university’s community partnerships, helping viewers to begin or facilitate various activities inside or outside the university.

In addition, we issue EFFECTOR as a tabloid featuring the university’s social partnership efforts to enable students to learn easily about community partnership.

Community Partnership Programs

We provide opportunities for students to engage in community-based learning (CBL) regardless of the faculty.

We organize “Machiya-de-udon” as a program for students to make a debut in the local community by interacting with residents while making udon noodles. Striving to increase students’ interest in community partnership activities, the program serves as an opportunity for them to experience multi-generation and multi-cultural interaction.

Since AY2017, we have implemented the “Keihan-Line Area Invigoration Project” in partnership with Keihan Holdings. Students selected through an open call cooperate in proposing community invigoration plans.

Support for Travel Expenses for Community Partnership Activities

We provide support to cover students’ travel expenses for engaging in community partnership activities. In AY2017, we began this system as a pilot project, with only travel within Kyoto City qualifying for our support. Since AY2018, however, support using the university’s fund has been available for travel to all regions of Japan.

Support for Student Activities⎯“Ryukoku Challenge”

Using Ryukoku University’s own fund, we provide a subsidy to support student groups who engage in voluntary activities or community partnership for social contribution outside their curricular programs. If selected after paper screening and interview screening, a student group will be provided with up to 300,000 yen.

Since AY2020, the 20th anniversary of the launch of Ryukoku University’s student venture development project, we have been operating the “Social Entrepreneur Development Program.” Toward realizing a sustainable society in which “no one will be left behind,” the program has been designed to encourage students to consider social problems familiar to them and solve such problems by adopting business methods. This is a practical program in which participants can receive lectures directly from experts who have launched various social businesses and learn about how to start and operate businesses.

Ryukoku IP Project -Online Courses Common to the Three Campuses as an Initiative Only Realized by Ryukoku University

The Ryukoku IP Project has been intended to provide support for initiatives that will contribute to the reform of the university and its education, and the improvement of the education through the creation of new educational programs toward facilitating and improving the university’s education. The project to provide online courses common to the three campuses has been adopted as an initiative from April 2022 to March 2025.

Since AY2021, a standard course timetable has been introduced to all three campuses, allowing multi-campus courses to be designed. Accordingly, we have begun to work on 1) the development of equipment for creating value in taking classes with the focus on synchronicity and interactivity between the university’s Omiya, Fukakusa, and Seta Campuses; 2) the development of VR-based teaching materials; and 3) the development of lectures that involve interaction with overseas universities.

In AY2022, we mainly addressed 1) and 3). For 1), we held workshops on UI and UX in cooperation with outside companies. We also organized the “Ryukoku UniversityTell Us! Sempai Project” as a lecture meeting at the Fukakusa Campus. Inviting alumni currently working as business owners or entrepreneurs, we used prototypes in this event. Currently, we are working toward a full-scale introduction of equipment for achieving synchronic connection between our campuses and ensuring interactive communication, with more than one screen shown.

For 3), we organized a workshop jointly with Nan Hua University, a Taiwanese university founded on Buddhist principles, and voluntary students of our university. In the workshop, participants interacted with one another, while discussing altruistic efforts made by the universities as well as social efforts and challenges of their interest.
